J.T. Magen Ranked the 13th Largest Construction Company In Chicago
Corporate interiors, retail flagship stores and out-of-the-ground data centers are among the construction specialties from the Chicago office of this nationwide general contractor.
J.T. Magen scores number 13 on the first-ever ranking of construction companies in Chicago by The Real Deal Chicago in 2019, based on new construction square footage within the city limits.
The company also has core strength in the interiors and renovation sectors of the industry, and handles projects across the region for Fortune 500 companies, global retailers and impressive businesses. Many are repeat customers.
Current top projects include a 200,000 sq. ft. data center for CoreSite Realty Corporation; The Study at University of Chicago, a new 167-room hotel; and expanded facilities for Omega Yeast.

Similar to other less established contractors in the Chicago market, J.T. Magen’s only option was to prove it could fulfill projects that others couldn’t… J.T. Magen took advantage of the recession by winning contracts from companies forced to consolidate offices, like Bank One… The firm later branched out to data centers, precisely because of how difficult they are to build. “It’s about finding those niche markets where you can add value,” says Geoff Arend, who heads the company’s Chicago operation.
