JT Magen Prioritizes Safety with Advanced Technology
JT Magen prioritizes safety through adopting cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices to advance jobsite protection across all projects. The firm views safety to be essential in order to drive efficiency, collaboration, innovation, and ultimately, success.
Lena Kenny, JT Magen’s in-house Safety Officer, explained how new tools are reshaping the way teams manage risk. Wearable devices track worker movement and fatigue, alerting supervisors to potential hazards before they escalate. Drones survey sites quickly and provide real-time views of hard-to-reach areas, while AI-powered analytics detect unsafe patterns that human observation might miss. In addition, Building Information Modeling (BIM) offers advanced planning features that allow teams to visualize and resolve conflicts prior to construction.
Yet technology is only part of the approach, as JT Magen reinforces innovation with comprehensive training and a strong safety culture. Crews are encouraged to speak up, share insights, and participate in collaborative planning sessions that address potential risks early. This integration of technology and teamwork creates accountability and responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment.
Industry experts point to wearables and exoskeletons as future growth areas for construction safety. JT Magen continues to evaluate these technologies while refining its current practices. As Kenny emphasized, the goal is not only to react to hazards, but to anticipate and prevent them.
Ultimately, JT Magen prioritizes safety as a cornerstone of project success. Utilizing innovative technology and implementing training methods, the company creates safer environments that protect workers and improve outcomes for clients. This ongoing commitment positions JT Magen at the forefront of construction safety innovation and sets a standard for the industry.
JT Magen Completes Construction of Cartier’s New Chicago Store
JT Magen has successfully completed the construction of a new two-story retail boutique for luxury brand Cartier at 15 Oak Street, Chicago. The project, managed from start to finish by JT Magen, involved detailed planning, material procurement, subcontractor management, and final project handover.
The new Cartier boutique boasts several unique architectural and design elements, including a custom white oak radius staircase with curved steel stringers and textured glass, a bespoke internal elevator cab, and luxurious plaster and gold-leaf finishes. These features seamlessly blend to create an immersive and elegant shopping experience.

Maurice Regan on Construction Industry Challenges
Maurice Regan, President of JT Magen, recently shared his perspective on the construction industry’s outlook. He noted persistent challenges, including weak office demand and rising insurance costs fueled by litigation. Yet he also emphasized new opportunities, especially in data center development and potential housing agreements in New York that could revive multifamily and office-to-residential projects.
JT Magen weathered the pandemic with the support of a strong backlog, which carried the firm through uncertainty and allowed it to adapt as conditions changed. However, Regan stressed that today’s market requires a different kind of resilience. Office demand remains uncertain, discouraging new development, while insurance costs continue to strain project budgets.
Even with these pressures, Regan remains optimistic. He pointed to data centers as a growth engine, with demand increasing as companies expand digital infrastructure. Additionally, pending housing legislation in New York could unlock new multifamily projects and accelerate conversions, giving underused buildings fresh purpose.
Regan underscored the need for flexibility. He believes contractors must stay agile and pivot toward stronger sectors like housing and data centers. This adaptability, he argued, will define industry leaders in the years ahead.
Although the construction industry faces real headwinds, avenues for growth are emerging. With focus and strategic shifts, recovery is within reach. For JT Magen, the path forward rests on resilience, seizing opportunities, and continuing to build spaces that shape the future.
